What does an addict look like? Do you see one when you look in the mirror? Once you understand just how many individuals experience alcohol and drug addiction each year, you begin to recognize just how many of the people around you have chosen to pursue treatment and live fulfilling lives.

Overcoming addiction begins with recognizing that you have a problem. After that, your goal should be to find a drug rehab or alcohol treatment program that can help you to learn the skills you need to live a sober life. That will look different for every individual, so it’s important to understand your options and choose the path that’s right for you.

Whether you’re dealing with alcohol dependency or drug addiction, the best time to pursue recovery is now. Read on to learn more about your options for recovery.

Rehabilitation Programs

If you are new to recovery, you may want to begin with the most extensive rehabilitation program. This would be an inpatient or residential treatment program such as Hope Rising Recovery, where you will have support 24-hours per day. You will spend most of your day engaging in group therapy, with time for individual and occupational therapy.

A less intensive option might be a PHP program. PHP stands for Partial Hospitalization Program and provides all of the services you can find at most inpatient rehab centers. The difference is that you will go home at the end of the evening and sleep in your own home, returning at a designated time each day.

You may also wish to consider an outpatient rehabilitation program. This is most useful if you are in the maintenance stage of your recovery and have recently completed inpatient or PHP rehab. You will be able to live at home and go to work but will continue attending group therapy.

Twelve-Step Programs

Once you have completed an inpatient, PHP, or outpatient recovery program, you may still need some support to stay on track.

Many individuals in recovery choose to attend Twelve Step Programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, for accountability. You will meet a network of other sober individuals who will tell their stories and celebrate your accomplishments.

Holistic Treatment

While not always effective on their own, holistic treatments can also teach you coping skills and provide you with tools that can help you to process your emotions and identify your needs. Holistic treatment modalities might include yoga or meditation, art therapy, or animal-assisted therapies. Many inpatient or PHP treatment programs may offer these services as part of their regular day.

Overcoming Addiction, Your Way

You have many options when it comes to the right way to go about overcoming your addiction. Consider beginning your sobriety journey in a highly supported environment. Your counselors and therapists should be able to give you advice regarding aftercare so you can continue the work of overcoming addiction for life.
