Everyone loves eating snacks. But do you know how expensive snacks can be? Not to mention that they can be very unhealthy for your body. Increased body weight, cholesterol, and higher blood pressure are some of the side effects of eating snacks.
Another problem that you need to be aware of is snacking too much can cause you to skip a meal. This is bad for people who already have irregular meal schedules. As the body will not get enough important nutrients.
But, there is a solution for all of you. How about eating cheap and healthy snacks? Saving up on your money and taking care of your body at the same time!
Popcorn
Popcorn is simply one of the best snacks for everyone. It is cheap and can be healthy too. You can make your own popcorn by using a simple kettle. You don’t need a microwave or even a popcorn popper. And you should avoid buying premade popcorn products as well.
Fruits
I have been saying for a while now that fruits are the best snacks in the world. Too many snacks are unhealthy considering all the harmful ingredients in them. And most of them are also addicting, causing people to snack non-stop every day.
To combat these problems, why not substitute all those unhealthy snacks with fruits? Fruits are delicious, cheap, healthy, and there are many options available. Banana is a great example of a fruit snack. It is rich in potassium and contains enough calories and satiating fiber for your body. If you are too lazy to use a knife to peel fruits, then banana is a great fruit for you.
Honeydew melon is another great fruit to try. It contains enough vitamin C for your body and is great for reducing stress. You can turn it into a smoothy and enjoy the refreshing water. And let’s not forget about apples. You know what they say: an apple a day can keep the doctor away. Apples can be eaten peeled or with the skin. You can use them in many meal recipes too.
Hard-boiled eggs
Do you know that eggs are actually getting cheaper? Well in some areas they are getting cheaper. And if you buy them in bulk, there’s a discount on that too. Eggs are rich in primo protein, amino acids, and choline. You can fry them, boil them, or poach them.
It’s fun to experiment with eggs, and of course, they make a great snack as well. You can start by boiling up a dozen of eggs in a week and experiment with them for more fun snack ideas.
Edamame
This is my personal favorite. Edamame is an awesome snack, and I am always happy to eat them every day. You can buy a pack of frozen edamame for cheap, and you’ll have a supply of edamame that can last for a while. A 100-calorie serving of edamame has 11 grams of soy protein and six grams of fiber.
Yogurt
Do you want a snack that can make you feel good after eating it? Try yogurt. Yogurt products are available everywhere and you get to choose among many different varieties. I recommend buying a brand that says it has live and active cultures. Because it means that the yogurt brand contains probiotics. And as always, buying a big tub of yogurt is cheaper than the smaller ones.
Smoothies
I have mentioned fruits before but what about smoothies? Smoothies are awesome, simple as that. And you get to experiment with your smoothies, and they will always be healthy and delicious. For example, you can combine melon and strawberry for today and tomorrow will be a different combination of fruits.
Smoothies are also a great way for people who want to get the benefit of fruits in one go. You can make your smoothie thinner or thicker depending on your taste.
Conclusion
As you can see there are so many alternatives to unhealthy snacks. All these alternative snacks are healthy, delicious, and fun. I can guarantee that just by trying these snacks, you will feel much better than before. And like I have said a few times, you experiment with these snacks and come up with your snack formula.
